  • “Do you have a degree in economics?”

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer gets into an argument over economic policy with Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), and tries to talk him down by snidely asking him whether he has a degree in economics … which, to Brewer’s embarrassment, Brooks does: with Honors.

Priceless! Gee, it's not hard to figure out why she thinks she's qualified to talk about it.

As comments in the link point out - never ask a question, like that, if you don't know what the answer will be. Moreover, when earning her degree in broadcast journalism you would have thought she would have been taught to shy away from trying appeal to authority argumentation. And when her setup failed, she still tried to invoke Ben Bernanke's status as Fed Chairman as a trump card.

"Gotcha" journalism may be the most inane, but it also has the most wonderful backfires.

Here is the entire interview, if anyone is interested:

Can you really fault her too much? I mean, isn't it reasonable if you were in her position, to assume that anyone who received a degree from an institute of higher learning, must have positions that line up with the left?

She has probably already called Brooks' alma mater for a story on how extremist and racist economic theories are being taught in American universities.

Brewer was also the one who was so concerned about white people with guns strapped to their backs showing up at health care protests. Only problem was, the footage/photo they used was of a black man with a semi-automatic rifle strapped to his back.
